Successful Conclusion of the VIPPSTAR 2025 Congress: Two Days of Science, Ethics, and Innovation for Children with Visual Impairments

UNIBS, LIGHT, and ASST Among the Leading Partners in the European Project for Digital Innovation in Childhood Visual Disability Prevention

19–20 May 2025 | Centro Convegni Paolo VI, Brescia

The international congress of the European project VIPPSTAR, dedicated to visual impairment in children and adolescents, has concluded in Brescia. The two-day event brought together the project’s 18 partners to define shared clinical practices, registries, digital architectures, and ethical regulatory pathways for the adoption of artificial intelligence in clinical settings.

On the second day, Cesare Furlanello (LIGHT) led the session on AI ethics and regulation, presenting the roadmap for the creation of a regulatory sandbox, and discussing with the consortium the criteria for safety, transparency, and reliability of algorithms for pediatric applications.

The congress also featured a session on communication and dissemination, as well as several working groups where partners collaborated on co-design, clinical study implementation, the technological framework, and the clinical registry.

The entire event served as a unique and valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships among the partners and consolidate strategic plans for the continued implementation of the VIPPSTAR project.

The project is already well underway, and LIGHT will continue to support the consortium in developing AI solutions that comply with European ethical and regulatory standards.
